The United Nations CSD mutli year program of work is separated into thematic clusters, whereby topics the subject of focus on a bi-annual basis.

The 2010/2011 cycle contains five major themes :

Transport

Chemicals

Waste Management

Mining

A ten year framework of programmes on sustainable consumption and production patterns

Although the 5 topics listed are key focus points that could involve anything from Manchester skip hire to public transport in Paris, there are also an ever present list of cross cutting issues that span the united nations CSD bi-annual cycles. Namely :

Poverty Eradication

Changing unsustainable patterns of consumption and production

Protecting and managing the natural resource base of social and economic development

Sustainable development in a globalizing world

Health & sustainable development

Sustainanble development of SIDS

Sustainable development of Africa

Other regional initiatives and means of implementation

Institutional framework for sustainable development

Gender equality and Education.

The ten year framework of programmes on sustainable consumption and production prepared by the Marrakech Process Secretariat UNDESA and UNEP 3rd draft was released for public comment in September 2009. This is a living document developed in consultation with regions and stakeholders throughour the CSD 18-19 cycle in 2010-11.

All groups and stakeholders are invited to submit comments on programmes that would be needed to address remaining constraints and obstacles to change unsustainable patterns of consumption and production

The youen.org site expired recently, which was a shame since youth caucus members were still utilising the site for expressing views and keeping in touch.

Since I had spare server space, I have resurrected the domain as a place where subjects relating to sustainable development can be raised and commented on, not only by the members of the UN Youth Caucus, but by the general public as well.

Comments and topics related to sustainable development will be moderated, so this is not a place for commercial purposes or spam links of any kind.

If you have an issue or article you would like to place on this blog for comment, then please use the “contact us” link, and we will review and include your post as soon as possible.

The UN CSD Youth Caucus is a network of around a thousand international youth leaders, typically from organizations that are international in nature. The need for input into the United Nations commission on sustainable development is paramount for the world youth caucus members, as this promotes and fosters a line of communication between the international network of youth organisations and the UN CSD.

Topics that have been discussed in past years include improving access to reliable, affordable, viable, socially acceptable and environmentally sound energy services. Clean technologies for fossil fuels, advanced energy technologies, integrated approach to addressing air pollution and atmospheric problems.
